Investigating forms of presentation of the Artist’ Book.

The book on the table. /// The closed archives. /// The book in a box. /// The open archives. ///
The book on the shelves. /// The book underfoot. /// The book on the ground.
/// The book in an intimate space. /// The book as installation. /// The book in a working space. ///
The book as an object to walk around. /// The book as a concept for a space.

INDICATION

Uwe Poth (Nijmegen) has previously made, unique books and published collectors of drawings retracing the travels of J.W.Goethe and A.Dürer.

This however, is one of his few forays into editioned artists book production.

INDICATION echoes these earlier works in that it is a linked flow of images created over a fixed period of time, (1 january -31 december 1999) drawing on cultural references and personal experience. INDICATION contains 24 drawings, screenprinted in earth and sanguine colours on a semi-transparent sheet.

INDICATION is a form of selective memory hinting at a wider experience. It is a whistle-stop journal of cultures, visual influences and personal space. The viewer's eye is fragmented by the layers of imagery, pulled through time by the artist's travels.

Indian gods interwine with Western iconography.

Dutch icescaters speed into a Bologna art gallery while sacred cows and grazing sheep go about their business amongst Belgian architecture. The drawings are hints, at archaeology, of time revaged murals and ancient manuscript. Their story can only be pieced together by supposition and inference. They are indicators of sight, teasing visions of implied possibilities. from:catalogues -Inside Cover- 1999
